Literature Reading

20 week classes

This course is for Grade 3 – 12 students to develop the critical skills in English literary analysis and

critical thinking as preparation for further study of literature and creative writing. Students will guided by the instructor to analyze English literature books in terms of cultural context, plot, setting, theme, characters, point of view, tone and style. Also, vocabulary and writing strategies will be introduced in each lesson.

Creative Writing

20 week classes

This course has been designed for Grade 4-9 students to improve their ability to create writing ideas

and develop essential skills of various types of writing. Students will focus on how to write various types of paragraphs, how to organize writing ideas and how to write a five-paragraph essay through the five stages of the writing process: planning, drafting, revising, editing&proofreading and publishing.

Communication Enhancement

15 WEEK LESSONS

This course has been created for Grade 4-8 students who want to

develop English fluency in terms of listening and speaking. Students will expand their English vocabulary and improve communication skills in a variety of everyday life scenes. In each lesson, students will read and discuss one short text, listen to a dialogue, learn vocabulary and describe a picture.

Critical Thinking

30 WEEK LESSONS

In this course, students will learn how to develop critical thinking skill to help them achieve academic

success in schools. After completing this course, students will be able to use critical thinking and argumentation in the school environment to improve their academic performance, use a variety of thinking tools to develop critical thinking and apply critical thinking and argumentation to real-world problems and issues.

Can I apply if I don't have a Bachelor's degree?

We are strict about applicants’ education level and require you to have at least a Bachelor’s degree. We require this because this is something that the parents of our students we teach care about and trust that we are maintaining.

What is the application process like?

Applicants pass through five stages before becoming SLOAN teachers:

Basic info: Fill in your contact information and submit your resume, so we can screen for basic requirements and teaching experience.
Interview: Join us for a session where you showcase your teaching skills to a SLOAN recruiter or Record your demo lesson at your own time so that a SLOAN recruiter can evaluate you.
Introduction to Teaching: Watch videos to learn about the SLOAN technology, standards and curriculum.
Mock class: Practice teaching a full-length class with one of our teachers.
Sign your contract: provide docs & complete background check.
Get ready to teach: Put your time slots on your portal so that we can place students to you.

How long is a contract for?

We require a 6-month minimum commitment from our applicants. The contract can be renewed and we hope that it will be.

What is the payment?

As independent contractor, your payment or “service fee” is calculated on a per-hour class basis and is composed of a minimum pay begin from $20 CAD +incentives. Your minimum pay will be determined by your experience and demo class performance, while incentives are determined by your monthly class participation and completion.
